Greywolf Therapeutics, the clinical-stage biotech company advancing novel antigen modulation treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases, deployed the Signals Clinical™ integration with Spotfire® from Revvity Signals to modernize oversight of a complex oncology clinical trial. By connecting directly with Medidata Rave and CRO-managed datasets, Greywolf replaced spreadsheet-based workflows and periodic reporting cycles with near-real-time visibility into enrollment, efficacy, safety and operational data. The new approach supports faster decision-making, automated data consolidation and mapping, stronger sponsor oversight and improved collaboration across clinical, medical, translational, IT and executive teams—without expanding headcount.
The Revvity Signals Professional Services team worked closely with Greywolf throughout planning and implementation, bringing both technical and clinical analytics expertise to the design and configuration of dashboards, data transformations and CRO data harmonization. This hands-on collaboration helped translate Greywolf’s evolving clinical review needs into tailored visualizations and workflows, enabling the team to adapt quickly as new questions and data needs emerged.
Managing Trial Data Complexity at a Small Biotech
Greywolf Therapeutics is a small clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company using a novel approach to T-cell activation. Greywolf’s pipeline currently has two active clinical programs, one in Phase II for the treatment of solid tumors and one in Phase I to address autoimmune diseases. Greywolf faces a core challenge familiar to small, growing biopharma companies: having limited staff and resources to manage a large volume of complex clinical trial data while also maintaining rigorous trial oversight.
The company was relying on inefficient methods of compiling and analyzing data from Excel spreadsheets and periodic reports generated from its electronic data capture system, Medidata Rave. Clinical data management and analysis were largely outsourced to clinical research organization (CRO) partners, leaving Greywolf dependent on scheduled updates and manually reconciled spreadsheets to assess multiple facets of its trial, including status reporting, enrollment progress, efficacy signals and drug safety signals.
The company soon realized that this approach, applied to a complex oncology study involving multiple dose-escalation and expansion cohorts, was unsustainable.
Streamlined Data Management
To address these needs, Greywolf sought to automate its data collection and analysis. The company addressed this need by deploying Spotfire and connecting it directly to Medidata Rave and its CRO-managed datasets. Now, Spotfire provides daily updates of trial data and near-real-time oversight across the organization. Instead of relying on monthly or ad hoc reporting, team members across the company can log into dashboards every morning to review new data from the previous 24 hours to see what has changed.
“[With] the daily updates, we can visualize our clinical trial data live,” said Natalie Hyland, head of clinical operations at Greywolf. “Now I can’t imagine working without this capability.”
This near-real-time access to data is enabled by Spotfire’s ability to automate collection of disparate data streams. With Spotfire, Greywolf can now consolidate and map data from multiple sources, including lab reports, safety signals, efficacy, demographics, tumor history and prior therapies.
Using this data, the company employs a range of bespoke visual dashboards to provide near-real-time insights to data signals from its clinical trial.
These custom pages, developed in collaboration with the Revvity Signals Professional Services team, are central to the management of Greywolf’s oncology trial. The tailored visualizations include waterfall plots, spider plots, cohort-level summaries and composite endpoint dashboards that aggregate patient-level information automatically.
“In Spotfire, those composite endpoints are brought together in a visual way, so we can see, at a glance, what the latest status is,” Hyland said.
Without automated data collection and data mapping, creating those visualizations manually would have required significant time from staff, delaying action on information provided by the data and introducing the potential for human error.
Spotfire also allows users to quickly change visualizations to suit specific analysis or reporting needs. “For example, when looking at spider plots, you might want to color your responders in green and your non-responders in red,” Hyland said. “Or you can change plots based on the indication, the location of the tumor type, or the response—depending on what you want to understand or convey about the data.”
The dashboards also provide Greywolf with a more integrated view of the operational status of the trial. Summary pages automatically track patient enrollment, dosing status, treatment discontinuations, cohort assignments and prior therapies, all without requiring manual reconciliation across multiple spreadsheets.
Keeping All Team Members—and the CEO—Up to Date
For smaller, lean biotech organizations, the ability to provide access to clinical insights to the cross-functional teams involved in a clinical trial is a significant advantage. At Greywolf, clinical operations teams, physicians, translational researchers, IT personnel and senior leadership now all have visibility into the same up-to-date data.
“Our medical monitor, for example, can go into Spotfire himself and have a look rather than asking the study team to provide an update and then waiting for the study team to do that,” Hyland said. “It’s direct, easy access to the data.”
Senior management has particularly benefited from the visual presentation of complex efficacy data that previously would have been difficult to generate or taken weeks to produce due to complex coding and data queries.
“They wouldn’t have had the daily insight before, and they wouldn’t have had comprehensive data like spider plots and waterfall plots,” Hyland said. “That’s what you need in a small biotech. You need to be able to see the information and quickly understand it and interpret it. [You don’t] have loads of time to interpret big tables of data.”
Improved Oversight
Spotfire also significantly strengthened Greywolf’s sponsor oversight capabilities. Teams can now identify anomalies, inconsistent entries and emerging trends much earlier than before. “It definitely makes it easier to spot anomalies,” Hyland said. In one instance, a tumor classification inconsistency became immediately visible in a pie chart visualization.
Data visualizations also make potential safety signals easier to identify, improving the company’s ability to effectively manage its clinical trial oversight and review responsibilities.
Expert, Responsive Professional Services
Greywolf’s streamlined deployment of the new system was facilitated by the hands-on approach of the Revvity Signals Professional Services team to ensure proper configuration of the dashboards, data transformations and CRO data harmonization.
“Being a fast-moving biotech, we want to be able to be flexible and pivot to where the data shows we should be moving to,” Hyland said. “Every time we have asked for a new dashboard or data visualization, our Revvity Signals support representative has immediately understood what we wanted and delivered it quickly. She has exceeded expectations every time.”
Growing with the Organization
The flexibility of Spotfire has also allowed Greywolf to easily expand the new approach into its autoimmune disease program, reusing core clinical data review capabilities developed during the oncology study.
Today, Spotfire has become deeply embedded within Greywolf’s operational culture, allowing the company to move from static, retrospective reporting toward continuous clinical oversight and cross-functional governance. For a small biotech managing increasingly sophisticated early-stage studies, the technology has improved collaboration across teams, accelerated insight generation and strengthened confidence in operational and scientific decision-making.
“It’s a better way of working because you’ve got better insights into the data in real time,” Hyland said. “And everyone loves a visual rather than trawling through an Excel spreadsheet.”
Clinical Trial Management at Scale
By integrating Spotfire into its clinical operations, Greywolf Therapeutics has demonstrated how a small biotech can achieve enterprise-level clinical oversight without expanding headcount. The solution’s near-real-time data visualization and automated integration capabilities have enabled faster decision-making, stronger sponsor oversight and greater cross-functional collaboration across the organization. As Greywolf advances multiple clinical programs, Spotfire will continue to serve as a critical solution that supports the company’s ability to rapidly interpret complex clinical data, adapt to emerging findings and confidently guide development strategy in a fast-moving clinical trial environment.
